Automation is no stranger in the industrial mining landscape. It exists in almost every part of an operation from plant processes and control systems, earthmoving equipment and vehicle fleet tracking devices, to drones and surveying technology, detection and avoidance systems, and maintenance sheds.

All this technology heavily relies on intelligent engineering and OT infrastructure, which helps businesses drive efficiencies across their assets, connecting people and plant like never before.

For almost 40 years, Perth based technology specialist Motherwell Automation has catered to the increasing needs of mining operations and their quest for cutting-edge solutions. The company provides industrial automation, control and OT solutions for the mining, oil and gas, marine and utility sectors, including renewables.

The company leverages a team of highly skilled and experienced engineers, solutions architects, process & control specialists and cyber-security professionals.

“We provide industrial business intelligence applications complete with downstream training and support for all of our products and solutions,” said Paul Jones, Engineering Manager at Motherwell Automation.

“Motherwell is committed to a customer centric, results orientated approach that meets client requirements. Our engineered solutions encompass the entire lifecycle from design, supply, implementation and commissioning through to post project support and training and range from conceptual design and feasibility studies through to, development and implementation,” said Mr Jones.”

“Our solutions include process improvement applications where we provide plant intelligence technology that performs process analysis and decision support to manage deviations with real-time corrective action. All relevant plant data is captured and stored and made available for reports, trending and plant performance analysis.”

Mr Jones said Motherwell has built and continues to build strong relationships with Australia’s leading companies in the heavy industrial space. “We have proudly serviced Fortescue Metals Group (FMG) for the past 17 years,” he said.

“In 2006, we were part of FMG’s original design team in the design and implementation of the Cloudbreak mine and associated export facility at Port Hedland. The scope comprised the design and development of all control and automation infrastructure including system build, hardware supply and site commissioning.”

“We continue to support FMG with their ongoing projects covering all aspects of process control across their various sites. In addition, we provide onsite, operational and support personnel as an extension to the FMG team.”

Motherwell works with many other mining companies, as well as large-scale gas, water, and renewable energy enterprises that require the integration of specialised control or monitoring systems.

Backed by long standing partnerships with market-leading manufacturers, Motherwell supports a quality range of automation, control, cybersecurity and power related hardware and software products. Brands include MAIWE, Honeywell, Telepresenz, RealWear, GE Digital, Brodersen and OneFex.

The company has its head office in Perth Western Australia incorporating a distribution centre and training facility to support clients on PLC and SCADA systems, motor and power protection management, data acquisition, telemetry and industrial communications networking.
