Brodersen RTU870 / IEC60870 Utility Outstation

The RTU870 Series unit is a very compact utility Outstation featuring the EN/IEC60870-5-101 utility protocol, which is primarily used within the European electricity industry.

The EN/IEC60870-5-101 protocol offers a standardised and simplified configuration of application data including data logging, time stamped events and buffering of data.

The RTU-870s are available for a range of different power supplies and on-board I/Os are expandable from 8DI/DO to many additional I/Os. The main communication is done via the IEC60870-5-101 protocol. The RTU870s are available with RS232 and V.23 modem interface. Serial communication to Meters via TTY or RS232 interface is possible.

There is also a small RTU870 with a fixed number of I/Os and built-in PSTN or GSM modem available.

The units are designed in compact 162 & 216mm wide modules for DIN-rail mounting and have a number of DC or AC power options, including battery charger to provide battery back-up when mains supply fails. A full package of configuration and driver tools is provided, which support programming of simple control sequences using an IEC 1131-3 (PLC) programming language.

The IEC60870-5-101 interoperability document defines the main protocol functions used and supported by the RTU-870 series.
